September 12th - 13th, 2008 - Silver Lake Sand Dunes Area State Championship BBQ Cook-Off
At Silver Lake Sand Dunes, this event allows you to compete in an exciting, competitive environment with a chance to win trophies, money and best of all, the "braggin' rights for one year.
You will be required to use the same display and general KCBS presentation rules.
Garnish Allowed: Chopped, sliced, shredded or whole leaves of fresh green lettuce, parsley, or cilantro. NO kale, endive, red tipped lettuce or lettuce core or other vegetation. Infraction penalty: 1 on Appearance.
Raw meat inspection Friday 6 a.m. –10a.m.
KCBS meat rules- you must start at check-in with cold, untreated, raw meat. Pre-cooking, soaking, marinating, brining etc. prior to check in will not be allowed. Visit the KCBS website for more information on general rules and judging criteria that will apply to this event.
Open category "any fire any grill any way"…Ribs and Wings only…
After meat inspection, par-boil them, crock pot them, however you wish as long as at least part of the cooking includes the use of the grill.
Turn in time is as follows on Friday:
Chicken wings - 4:25 pm - 4:35 pm tentative time only
Ribs - 4:55pm - 5:05 pm tentative time only
We will use some KCBS judges, local and celebrity judges and resource judges from team members on KCBS competition teams. This competition is not for KCBS teams entered in the professional competition.
Competition Prizes will be awarded as follows:
Grand Champion $100. + Braggin' Rights Trophy
1st Place Ribs $50 + Trophy 1st Place Chicken Wings $50 + Trophy
2nd through 20th place will receive participation ribbons
