June 2018

Spring
The lakeshore communities of West Michigan do a fantastic job of hosting events and activities that include the whole family. There's so much happening that is geared specifically toward kids and families as a whole, and that's part of what makes being here so amazing!

Every season in West Michigan has it's unique, fun things to do for kids of all ages- from babies up to the "young at heart". Indoors or outdoors, no matter the time of year, there's always something great going on along the lakeshore for families to experience together!

In addition to the following list, check out the events happening throughout the month at Sandcastles Children's Museum and the Ludington and Scottville branches of the Mason County District Libraries!

Friday, June 8th-Sunday, June 10th


National Asparagus Festival in Hart. Events include farm tours, arts/craft show, food show, and parade.

Michigan's Free Fishing Weekend. All fishing licenses waived for the weekend.

8am - Ludington Lakestride Half Marathon, 10k, & 5k.

8am - Two Guinness World Record Attempts for cycling in Ludington.

10am-5pm - Port of Ludington Maritime Museum one-year anniversary party at the museum- 217 S. Lakeshore Dr. in Ludington. Children's outdoor activities: 11:30am-2:30pm; dedication of S.S. Badger exhibit: 3pm; $2 off admission all day; Free admission from 3-5pm.

1pm & 3:30pm - Manistee Saints Baseball vs. Michigan Sports Academy-Livingston at Rietz Park- 90 Park Ave. in Manistee.


Sunday, June 10th


7:30am-12pm - Fly-In Breakfast at the Oceana County Airport- 1805 W. Baseline Rd. in Shelby.

1pm & 3:30pm - Manistee Saints Baseball vs. Michigan Sports Academy-Livingston at Rietz Park- 90 Park Ave. in Manistee.

12-5pm - 2nd Annual West Shore Pride Fest. An event to support the LGBTQ Community at Rotary Park- 107 S. Harrison St. in Ludington. Features booths of non-profit organizations, artisans and crafters, food and beverage vendors, and political representatives; all who suppor the LGBTQ Community.

Ludington Area Jaycees Summer Kick-Off Concert featuring the Scottville Clown Band at Waterfront Park- 1122 S. William St. in Ludington.


Thursday, June 14th


9am-6pm - Day Care Day at Lewis Farms & Petting Zoo- 4180 W. M-20, New Era. Licensed day cares are encouraged to attend. Each child will receive a wristband which includes farm admission, jumping pillows, pedal carts, and 1 barrel train token. Pre-registration is required, visit lewisfarmmarket.com.

5-8pm - Outdoor live music at Live in the Plaza: Tim Krause at James Street Plaza/Legacy Plaza- 112 N. James St.


June 15th-July 15th

6:30-7:30pm - Swim Lesson Registration at Donald C. Baldwin Community Pool- 706 E. Tinkham in Ludington.

Free Summer Meals for Kids. This non-income based program offers free and nutritious meals to those age 18 and younger at various sites. All sites are closed on July 4th and Victory Early Childhood Center is also closed on July 5th.

10am-3pm - Pioneer Kids Day at Historic White Pine Village- 1687 S. Lakeshore Dr. in Ludington.

12-5pm - Bus Day at Big Sable Lighthouse. Round-trip bus transportation is available from the Ludington State Park office to the Big Sable Lighthouse. Last bus leaves the lighthouse at 4:45pm. There will be live music at the lighthouse by High Lonesome from 1:30-3:30pm. $5 for adults and $2 for children.

6:30pm - Showing of the Veggie Tale Movie "Jonah" at the Scottville Clown Band Shell- 105 W. Green St. in Scottville. The film is being presented by the Radiant Church community at the Scottville Clown Band Shell on Saturday, June 23. Games and music will kick off the event at 6:30pm, with the movie beginning at dusk. Free popcorn, drinks, and goody bags will be available. Attendees should bring chairs and blankets. Open to the public.

9am-12pm - Flippin', Flyin', Catchin' Pancakes at the Pentwater Historical Society Museum- 85 S. Rutledge St. in Pentwater.

10am & 1pm - Western Michigan Old Engine Club Garden Tractor Pulls at Scottville Riverside Park- 700 S. Scottville Rd. Dead boat at 10am, Transfer sled at 1pm.

6-9pm - Ludrock Allstars at the Shagway Arts Barn- 5949 Shagway Rd. in Ludington.

9:30pm - 2nd Annual Pentwater Venetian Illuminated Boat Parade from the Pentwater Yacht Club- 205 S. Dover St. Theme is "Disney in Pentwater".
