Northern Communities along Lake Michigan

The Little Traverse Bay area of Northern Michigan has been attracting visitors to its shores for more than a century. And it is no surprise that this part of Northern Michigan continues to draw visitors and summer residents today. What could be more alluring that the brilliant blue waters of Lake Michigan, glorious beaches, charming small communities, and a myriad of activities that could fill every day from dawn until dusk.

TRAVERSE CITY
Everyone knows about Traverse City...the Cherry Capital! One of Michigan's most beautiful destinations, this is home to wineries, museums, lighthouses, and the Grand Traverse Resort. The Traverse City Film Festival, which began in 2005, is fast becoming a must-attend event for any film buff. Overlooking Lake Michigan, Traverse City has gorgeous beaches, golf courses, and the magnificent Sleeping Bear Dunes.

CHARLEVOIX
Coming down the hill into downtown Charlevoix is indeed an "ahhhh" moment. The sight of this bustling community nestled between Lake Michigan and Round Lake is simply beautiful.
Charlevoix has been the summer place for generations of people from the Midwest and the U.S. There is so much so see, do and enjoy in Charlevoix: Venetian Festival, summer art fair, sailing, boating, beaches, golfing, Apple Fest, Concerts in the Park, and more.

PETOSKEY
Ernest Hemingway is not the only person to find beauty and relaxation in Petoskey. This 6,000 person community nestled on the shores of Lake Michigan's Little Traverse Bay is a destination for visitors because it has so much to offer. Petoskey's Gaslight District is the place to shop, walk, dine, and enjoy. Walk through the pedestrian tunnel to the beautiful waterfront park where you can watch the boats come into the marina.

HARBOR SPRINGS
From spring days with a landscape covered in trillium to a summer afternoon on the beach or water, Harbor Springs is the place. Situated on a beautiful natural, deep harbor, this tiny, beautiful community has a wonderful downtown business district with fabulous shopping overlooking the water. This is the place to meet with old friends, make new ones, dine, play, and enjoy.

MACKINAW CITY & MACKINAC ISLAND
A trip to Michigan would not be complete without first visiting Mackinaw City, right at the "top of the mitt." This small, quaint town has great shopping and dining...and is the take-off point to Mackinac Island. Catch one of the many ferries that shuttle you to this turn-of-the-century island, where no vehicles are allowed. Sample some of their famous fudge, take a carriage ride around the island, or hop on a bike and explore on your own. Many lodging facilities are found here, including the famous Grand Hotel and Mission Point Resort.
